Historic Tour Scripting

Soulard CID recently issued a RFPs seeking professionals to assist with a historic tour scripting project. For historic tour scripting, the CID is excited to start work with John Cline and Robert Printz, both residents of Soulard.

Cline holds a Doctorate in American Studies from the University of Texas. He has worked in the History & Genealogy department at the St. Louis County Library, and is currently employed in the Genealogy department of the St. Louis City Library—both of which give him extensive knowledge of and experience using local archival resources. Printz was a founding member of the Soulard Restoration Group and lived in the neighborhood from 1972 until 2002. An early rehabber and inaugural member of the SRG’s Plan Review Team (PRT), he helped craft the initial historic code for Soulard. He also worked in an architectural restoration and property management company in St. Louis from 1974 until 2002.

From their proposal:

“Highlighting the many facets of Soulard’s history brings forth a distinctly American story of promise, decline, and renewal. It ties the neighborhood to both the complexities of world-historical events and the unique, individual experiences of the many people who have inhabited this corner of St. Louis for the past two centuries. Such a narrative will foster a sense of inclusivity that ought to appeal to potential home and business owners, visitors, and—last but not least—long-time residents.”

Look for the initial phases of the Soulard historical tour to take shape in late 2026.
